Thoughts on Crime & PUNishment (ahahahahaha) by Ben
TWO men have been jailed for “mindless” drunken attacks on strangers in Battery Point earlier this year.
Leigh Matthew Hallett, 27, of Murdunna, and Nathan Colman, 30, of Bellerive, bashed and robbed, or tried to rob, four men in the early hours of July 25.
Colman was jailed in October for 3 1/2 years, while Hallett was sentenced yesterday to two years in prison.
The court heard that the men were drunk at the time they committed the offences, but Justice Shan Tennent said that was no excuse for the two “mindless attacks”.
Hallett was on a good behaviour bond for a previous assault at the time of the robberies, while Colman had just been released on parole.
The court heard Colman’s record included convictions for assaulting a police officer, causing grievous bodily harm and common assault.
He can apply for parole after serving two years and Hallett will serve at least a year behind bars.

Surely allowing him to work behind bars is a bad idea given his alcohol problems.
