Making All Of Your Dreams Come True

Thoughts on Arctic Circle by Ben [as told to Cam]

Arctic Circle, for those not in the know, is a comic strip in The Age, sandwiched between the wry office humour of Bristow and the cutting-edge torture-comedy of The Wizard of Id. It tells the tale of 3 gay penguins and their adventures (and misadventures!) living and loving at the North Pole. It subtly pushes hardline Deep Ecologist ideas, despite being printed everyday on the corpses of a thousand trees.

Normally this is fine. Today’s effort, however, was particularly disturbing.

What is going on here?

Ben asks:

How has this little girl managed to arrange this meeting? The date was already arranged – he was just confirming it.

Why is a penguin going on a date with a human woman? There have been no other humans in the strip!

It’s because of bestiality, Ben. You’re such a prude.

  1. How did I live all this time without a comic strip about penguins? I love penguins, especially gay ones. Or is it really lame?

  2. It is possibly not the greatest use of the space vacated by For Better Or For Worse, but keep in mind that The Age rejected our proposal for Action Bear and the Action Bear Super Friends (Or Maybe Something More) so my criticism may simply be motivated by this bitterness.

ABATABSPOMSM would have involved a grizzly bear that jumps onto boats and saves the day. His sidekicks (or maybe something more) would have included Mr. Teenager, an old man who can turn into a teenager, and Stab Wife, a wife who stabs.

Anyway, to answer your question, in my opinion it is not that good, but I am probably not the target demographic. I might come around if the penguins joined the ELF or something.

  3. If you want a GOOD comic strip about penguins, Kathleen, google “Pokey the Penguin”.

  4. […] leave a comment » It had been suggested in some circles that climate change alarmist comic strip Arctic Circle was about to take a disturbing turn and tackle the hot-button issue of bestiality. […]
