Do you remember where you were the day the world changed?

It’s 22 years since Robert Plath, a pilot with the US airline Northwest, stood his bag on its end, added wheels and a retractable handle and forever changed the way we travel.

Some readers may be too young to recall, but back when everyone had to carry their bags, aeroplanes were made out of this terrible smelling veiny blue cheese and ran on dreambeams. It took Plath’s revolutionary invention to send a message to the air travel industry that it was time to straighten up and fly right.
